Proposed improvements to King George V Extension Field
KGV Extension Field is next to KGV Playing Field which already has a fenced play area, skate park, outdoor gym, table tennis, tennis courts, boule piste and football pitch. The Extension Field was previously used as a landfill site and has poor drainage. Over the years, the Town Council have looked at ways of improving the Field for community use.
The Town Council has asked Austin Design Works for proposals to make the Extension Field into a welcoming place for all ages. You can see the plan from the links on the left, and some images of the proposal. Last year the grass was kept long with mown grass paths for people to walk around. This helped bees and other insects. The long grass was cut for hay and used by a local farmer.
What about the money?
The Town Council has £12,000 from a local development to spend on the Field. We will also be applying for grant funding.
How can you help?
Our plan is to improve the park for people of all ages while working with tricky landscape conditions. The Field has poor drainage but lovely views. It is popular with dog walkers. We’d like to know what you think about our ideas and help plan what we do.
