Twinning

Nailsworth & District Twinning Association

signing-the-charters.jpgThe Nailsworth twinning link was formalised in 1995 when John Cross, Mayor of Nailsworth signed the official twinning charters with Michel Castaing, Mayor of the French town of Lèves (next to Chartres to the southwest of Paris). Since then a strong bond of friendship has developed between our two towns.

poster.jpgTwinning members meet up annually, one year in France, one year in England, and the years have seen blossoming friendships between different groups in our communities – such as the primary schools, dramatic societies, choral groups, sports teams, and of course families and individuals.

In 2005, then mayors Sue Reed and Jean-Pierre Reschoeur officiated at the 10th anniversary celebrations, cutting several cakes and exchanging gifts.

Nailsworth presented Lèves with a finger post, showing the distance between us in miles on one side and kilometres on the other. This has been placed in the square named in Nailsworth's honour.place-de-nailsworth.jpg

The 10th anniversary gift from Lèves - a specially commissioned stone plaque – has been set into the wall of the Mortimer Room.

Nailsworth has named the little terrace area off Market Street in honour of our twin townmap.jpg

The Association publishes a regular newsletter, le Bulletin, and the most recent edition is available to view via this page. See the list of files on the left hand pane.
