Precept for 2023 – 2024

Nailsworth Town Council has an annual expenditure budget of £380,134 for 2023-24 of which the precept makes up £361,635. The rest comes from room hire income and council reserves. NTC are also successful in bring in over £30,000 grant funding year.

Like householders, NTC has been hit by rising costs in utilities, services, materials and supplies and this has been reflected in this year’s budget. NTC spends nearly 22% of the annual budget on support for town services such as the Youth Club (13% of precept), extra hours for the library (0.9% of precept), Homestart family support (1.5% of precept), and holiday play sessions (0.9% of precept). This year NTC is also contributing to the cost of a Community Development Worker (1.4% of precept). These services support the most vulnerable people in our community – the library is a Warm Hub for example.

With rising costs, the council has taken the decision to keep supporting these services and maintaining our buildings and land for the benefit of the whole community.

Nailsworth Town Council is a dynamic council with many projects planned to make our town a better place to live and visit. The council has ‘earmarked reserves’ to make sure these projects come to fruition.

Slow down for a smile!

Jan 21 2021 P1210015 1.jpgThe Town Council has had two Speed Indicator Device Signs installed. One of these is near Egypt Mill, on the A46 and one on Nympsfield Road towards the Youth Club. NTC has been working with the Police and Crime Commissioner and Gloucestershire County Council to obtain and fit the SIDS.

The signs give you a happy smile if you are driving with the speed limit, and frown if you are not. The signs also store data, so that speed statistics can be analysed over time.

Showcasing Nailsworth

The award winning Silver band provided the sound track to Nailsworth Town Council’s Annual Town Meeting which took place on the 22nd April, with nearly thirty groups and clubs represented in the Town Square (bus station). Nailsworth's Mayor, Cllr Mike Kelly, presented community awards to a host of 'Nailsworth Heroes - people who have gone and above and beyond for the community - and the Nailsworth Poet Laurette read some of his work inspired by living in the town. As well as being a chance to meet and talk to people across the town, the annual meeting is a chance to meet the Mayor, Cllr Mike Kelly, and other councillors and find out how your town council has been working for you.

If you missed the festivities, you may have seen the Town Awards winners displayed in the Civic Centre window, along with a copy of the Annual Report. And if you missed that, here are the award winners: The Festival Arts Award - Ella Berry and Charlotte Miles. The Chamberlain Sporting Award - David Frost of Nailsworth FC. Youth Award - Rhys Jones. A special award was presented to David Duval, the town’s timekeeper. After maintaining the town’s clock in the Clocktower for many years, he has decided to step down this year. A blue glass bird was presented to David to thank him for his years of service in keeping us running to time.
