Precept for 2023 – 2024

Nailsworth Town Council has an annual expenditure budget of £380,134 for 2023-24 of which the precept makes up £361,635. The rest comes from room hire income and council reserves. NTC are also successful in bring in over £30,000 grant funding year.

Like householders, NTC has been hit by rising costs in utilities, services, materials and supplies and this has been reflected in this year’s budget. NTC spends nearly 22% of the annual budget on support for town services such as the Youth Club (13% of precept), extra hours for the library (0.9% of precept), Homestart family support (1.5% of precept), and holiday play sessions (0.9% of precept). This year NTC is also contributing to the cost of a Community Development Worker (1.4% of precept). These services support the most vulnerable people in our community – the library is a Warm Hub for example.

With rising costs, the council has taken the decision to keep supporting these services and maintaining our buildings and land for the benefit of the whole community.

Nailsworth Town Council is a dynamic council with many projects planned to make our town a better place to live and visit. The council has ‘earmarked reserves’ to make sure these projects come to fruition.

Coronation Grants

The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023 and there will be a Bank holiday on Monday 8th May 2023 to enable people to come together and celebrate over the weekend.  

NTC are welcoming grant applications from groups and organisations across the town that are looking to bring communities together to celebrate the Coronation. The grant could fund things such as a tea party, social event, exhibition or anything that has a coronation celebratory theme and involves the community.

The deadline for grant applications is Wednesday 1st March 2023 and Nailsworth organisations can apply using this grant application form or by phoning the Civic Centre 01453 833592. Please read the criteria carefully to check that your project is eligible. If you’re not sure what to write, Town Council staff are happy to help.

Road closures for Royal Coronation events 2023:

Stroud District Council is waiving the fee for road closures for Coronation street parties, big lunches
and other community events, providing the event fits the following criteria:
- The event is to celebrate the Coronation
- The event is being held during the period Saturday 6th May, Sunday 7th May and Monday 8th May 2023
- The event is no longer than a 1-day period (within the same day)
- The event is a not-for-profit community party or event

Flood works

We are pleased that the the recent flood works in the town centre have helped with drainage during this very wet weather. We had a small team of NTC Councillors and staff working on this project and we had invaluable collaboration with the GCC Drainage project. We were able to affect the scope of the project and the timing of the works to reduce the impact o the town. GCC, SDC and NTC worked together on this project; the disruption before Christmas is paying off now. 

We continue to have close contact with the GCC Drainage project, and regular checks are being carried out.

Grit bins

Nailsworth residents do an excellent job helping each other out by gritting pavements and footpaths. However, please remember to use the grit sparingly (it works better that way) and to be kind to your neighbours: please don’t use the grit to clear your own drive or path and try to share it around your street wherever the ice is the worst.

Gloucestershire County Council are responsible for gritting the roads. Grit bins are filled by GCC before each winter season. The salt in the bins is intended for use on the public highway only, please do not use grit from these bins to clear your own driveways or paths as there are limited supplies.
