    Bertie was born in Nailsworth in 1886, the son of Daniel Clark Harrison and Salome (Knee nee Clifford). Both Daniel and Salome had been married before. Salome's first husband, Oliver Knee, had died in 1877 leaving her with four children: William Henry (1871), Hettalinda (or Ethelind) (1872), Eliza (1875) and Georgiana (1877).

    Daniel had two children from his first marriage: Lily (1876) and Alfred (1879) Bertie's full siblings were: Walter (1882), Joseph (1885), Joanna (1888), James Oliver (1890) and Charles (1895). The family lived in Forest Green, where Daniel worked as a carpenter. In the 1901 census Bertie, aged 14, worked as a sawyer, but by 1911 he had already joined the 4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment and was serving in India.

    At the outbreak of war in August 1914, they were stationed in Burma, but returned to England on 1st February 1915. In April 1915 they landed at Cape Helles, Gallipoli where they were engaged in several battles.

    Bertie died of wounds on 31st May 1915 and was buried in Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery, Turkey. He is also remembered on the Woodchester Wayside Cross and on the Forest Green Chapel plaque at Christ Church.
