Nailsworth & District Twinning Association
Nailsworth Town twinning with Lèves offers members a unique opportunity; a chance to travel easily and affordably to France and to experience the culture by staying with local hosts. You don't need to speak French to take part. All that's required is a sense of adventure and desire to make new friends. In fact many of our members and their families have made strong friendships over the years. The last French visit here took place from 9th to 12th May, 2024 and saw 31 adults (including the Mayor, Rémi Martial and his deputy, Joël Houvet), and young people from Lèves enjoy a fun-filled three-day exchange with families in and around Nailsworth. In the June 2023 bulletin issue 132, you can read all about Nailsworth Twinning's visit to Lèves, together with the Nailsworth Silver Band. It was a fun packed weekend with beautiful weather, lots of laughs, music of different kinds and wonderful hospitality. For those that wish to, there is the option to welcome French visitors back to your home, to return the hospitality and show visitors around our lovely town and surroundings. However we appreciate that not everyone can host a visitor and members can participate in lots of other ways too. You can read about our various events and activities in the bulletins (regular boules games during the summer, quizzes and wine-tastings, treasure trails and so forth). We also have a stand each year at the Town Meeting where you can find out more from our committee members. The next meeting will be held on 19th April 2025.
Next year we shall be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of the N&D Twinning Association and it will be a very special celebration in Lèves. The Nailsworth Silver Band has been invited to return and play a major role in the festivities, which they will do with their amazingly talented and successful musicians. The dates are 2nd – 5th May 2025, so please join us on what will no doubt be a memorable few days.
The Association welcomes new members and especially encourages young people and families with children to get involved. We are planning some fun events and activities with young people in mind so keep an eye on the notice boards at the Library and Civic Centre. Local interest groups are also welcome to join us and in the past we have taken the community choir, silver band, tennis club, cricket teams and soon the Stuart Singers with us on our trips to France. Membership is currently £10 per person and £20 per family, which gives access to our biennial trips to France, social events and newsletters.
